Ashwood Construction, Inc. was founded in 1976 in Fresno, CA under the Ashwood Homes, Inc. moniker. In 1989 Michael J. Conway took sole control of the company and founded Ashwood Construction, Inc.

A family owned and operated company, Ashwood’s experience represents a variety of building construction projects, but our core focus remains the multifamily construction arena. We have built over 21,000 units in more than 100 cities varying in size from fewer than 40 units to more than 400.

Our developer relationships span the range from cities and not-for profit organizations to large, private development companies to individuals looking to develop a single piece of land. We have constructed projects sponsored by HOME, Cap and Trade, CalHFA, LIHTC, HUD, CDLAC, MHP and are well versed in the significant requirements imposed with subsidized construction. We’ve done it all and are proud of our product. We are well-seasoned construction professionals.

The results of our process are evident in our final product; quality multifamily construction, both new and rehabilitation.

Experienced Staff

Ashwood Construction, Inc. boasts a very low turnover rate. We carefully and selectively cultivate our Project Teams. We utilize our in-house, quarterly professional development sessions to focus on a broad range of topics and training. From safety and code updates to Section 3 and LEED training, our training covers the gamut. Oversight of staff is handled in the Ashwood hierarchy. Construction site staff are directly managed by the Project Manager assigned to their region. Executive staff oversees the Project Managers. Office staff report directly to executive staff.

Commitment to Sustainable / Green Building

Ashwood Construction, Inc. is committed to sustainable construction and construction practices.  Green building is not merely a marketing function, but a moral responsibility.  We believe that environmentally sound construction practices can be integrated without forsaking budgetary constraints.  We were the first to develop and build an affordable, green rated seniors project in Fresno.  With PV solar panels, energy efficiency exceeding Title 24 by 21%, native landscaping, and green finishes, the Oak Park Senior Villas Project has become a benchmark for green projects in the Central Valley.

Beyond development and building of environmentally sensitive projects, we believe in ongoing green education for our field and leadership staff.  Currently, we have a certified Build It Green Project Manager and LEED Accredited Professionals on staff.  We are well versed at participating in the green charrette process.   We believe the creation and networking of the team, including the general contractor, in early stages of any project is important.  With green building, it’s essential.  We have worked extensively with owners and design professionals to recommend and assess the sustainable design options.

Ashwood Construction, Inc. is well established and reliable multifamily contractor that has been in business since 1976.  We rank among the top multifamily builders in California.  Unlike other, less centralized contractors, we choose to build only in California and know the building codes, regulations and requirements well.  Annually, we complete an average of $50 million in construction. We have built for the majority of our current clientele previously.  It is our goal to be their go-to contractor.  We have a solid financial foundation and this allows us to weather market fluctuations, maintain bonding levels and offer a level of consistency and reliability to our partners not typically found in a local builder.
